Encouraging Bible Verses

Have you ever felt discouraged or frustrated? We all have at one time or another, but thankfully Jesus didn’t leave us empty handed during these times of trouble.  We have God’s word, which is filled with encouraging Bible verses.

Paul lets us know in Romans 10:17 that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  So when we hear or read the word of God, it builds up our faith.

The following 10 scriptures are among my favorite.  I have found these Bible verses to be both encouraging and uplifting when ever I am feeling down or discouraged.

If you are feeling frustrated, down, or hopeless, my hope is that these 10 encouraging Bible scriptures speak to your heart, uplift your spirit, and renew your faith.  Feel free to share these scriptures with anyone you know that is currently struggling, it may just brighten their day.

Encouraging Bible Verses

What are the 10 Encouraging Bible Verses?

Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

This echoes what Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 28:20, just one verse after the great commission: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

No matter what you are facing, Jesus wants you to know that he is with you all the time.  Even if you don’t feel him or understand what going on in your world.  Whether you are on a mountain top or in a valley, Jesus is right there with you.

David paints this picture in Psalm 139, “Where can I go from your Spirit?”  There is no where we can go that God isn’t right there with us.

Paul understood this concept when he stated in Romans 8:35-39 that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of Jesus.

So, be of good courage in whatever battle you are facing, Jesus is with you and will be a very present help in your time of trouble.  You just have to hand the issue over to Him.

Isaiah 41:10

"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

This scripture builds upon Joshua 1:9.  God is conveying to us through these scriptures that he is with us, and he will give us strength.

We have nothing to fear or be dismayed over because Jesus is on our side and he is bigger than anything we might face.

In John 16:33, Jesus said we would face tribulations, but to be of good cheer because Jesus has overcome the world.  You can have peace when you are in the midst of a trial because Jesus has never lost a battle.

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."

God wants us to completely trust in Him, no matter what.  If we try to make sense of the craziness that we face, it will only cause stress and anxiety.  God tells us to completely trust him because he wants us to feel at peace.  God will direct our path as long as we trust Him.

David could not have stated it better in Psalm 56:3, “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”  David understood that God had everything under control, which gave him peace in the middle of whatever he was facing.

Matthew 11:28

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

I think this verse continues to build on the theme of Jesus giving us peace in the midst of a battle.  Jesus said to come to Him and He would give us rest.

This means if we will come to Jesus in prayer, we can expect Him to give us rest or peace whenever we are feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

I personally love this verse.  It is a very encouraging bible verse that clearly states God is for us and wants us to have a future and hope.

God desires us to have peace in our life.  He wants us to have an amazing future, full of hope and blessing.

How do we obtain the peace God wants us to have? By completely trusting in Him, fully believing that Jesus is able to work in any situation.

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”

Ever since Kari Jobe released the blessing song, this scripture has been one of my favorites.

It is a blessing that the priests would speak over the children of Israel.  Do you see the reoccurring theme in these scriptures? God wants to bless you and watch over you.  He is here for you and loves you more than any words could express.

God has blessings of hope and peace for us.  Regardless of what we face, God’s blessings for us are still true.

Romans 15:13

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

If you really study these encouraging scriptures, you begin to notice that Jesus, the great God of the universe, is our hope.  All we have to do is trust in Jesus, and He will bless us with peace and joy.

Will we face hard times?  Yes, but Jesus is with us and is greater than whatever this world will throw at us.

Luke 12:6-7

"Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

Jesus gives us another layer of his love towards us in this verse.  Not only does God want us to have joy, peace, and hope, but He also thinks we are very valuable.

If you feel worthless, then read this verse. Jesus thinks you are very valuable, and he proved it by dying for us on the cross.

Philippians 4:19

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus”

Jesus is able and willing to supply you anything you need!

Jesus stated in John 14:13-14 that anything you ask in the name of Jesus, he will do it.

Think about that, Jesus said he will answer our prayers.  All you have to do is believe in Him.  How do you do that? By obeying what Jesus taught.

Jesus wants to fill you with his spirit, and gives us the formula to receive his Spirit in Acts 2:38.

Psalm 23:4

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."

Nothing like closing out with one of my all time favorite Psalms.  It really captures the essence of all the other scriptures we have already examined.

We don’t have any reason to fear, even in the midst of the valley, because God is with us.  He is our comfort in the presence of trouble.

What Can We Glean From the 10 Encouraging Bible Verses?

Do not be afraid or dismayed, but to have courage.

Jesus wants to bless us with peace, joy, and hope.

We are very valuable to Jesus.

Jesus will supply all of our needs.

And all you have to do to gain access to these blessings is be filled with the Holy Ghost, which is God’s spirit living in us.
